Year End Message from TIME Hotels CEO, Mohamed Awadalla

To say it’s been a tough year for the tourism industry and all those businesses intrinsically linked to our sector is an understatement. The industry has faced its biggest challenge on record, and our thoughts go out to colleagues around the world who continue to face insurmountable trading conditions.

What we have seen within the industry is resilience. Many businesses have shown they can adapt and ride out the storm until we once again get back to something resembling business pre-pandemic. Our strategy to focus on long-stay guests and promote our properties to local markets has returned good dividends, but we are all aware of the hard work ahead.

One thing this industry has shown time and time again is that when the going gets tough, we come together, roll up our sleeves and do what needs to be done to bounce back.

I’m particularly proud of the team at TIME. Everyone has gone above and beyond to ensure guests have felt safe, secure, and welcome in our properties throughout the pandemic. Many of them sacrificed time with their own families to provide exceptional service in incredibly challenging circumstances. For this, I will be eternally grateful and proud.

Given the fantastic work undertaken it will come as no surprise to learn we have been awarded a series of accolades throughout 2020, including: Dubai Chamber CSR Label Award; TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Award; Happiness at Work Award; Green Key Sustainability Award; World Luxury Restaurant Awards; Hospitality Chef Excellence Awards; Hospitality Excellence Awards CSR Champion of the Year; and Hospitality Excellence Awards Admin & Secretary of the Year.

Our team was also recognised at the recent Hotelier Middle East Awards, one of the first major award ceremonies to return to a live format, albeit with limited capacity. In the publication’s annual Hotelier Middle East Power top 50, I was honoured to be recognised as one of the region's top 20 hoteliers.

We were also recognised for initiatives such as our ‘Sanitised & Ready’ campaign, which included a range of new intensified cleaning measures and sanitisation procedures which were implemented in all our properties including all public areas and in individual guestrooms.

The improved protocol included detailed infection control focused on the disinfection of all hotel transportation, reception areas, elevators, public restrooms and guestrooms as well as all F&B outlets and kitchens. Additionally, initiatives were put in place to boost morale and promote positive wellbeing among all our staff members, as well as improving the guest experience.

Despite COVID-19, we continue to expand the TIME Hotels brand. We recently took over the management of the Onyx Hotel Apartment in Al Qusais, our fifth property in Dubai and seventh in the UAE.

Looking to the future, I’m buoyed by the vaccine being rolled out in countries around the world. This will undoubtedly bring optimism and confidence back to travel, and we look forward to welcoming guests from around the world once again.

To conclude, I would like to thank the TIME family for the hard work carried out throughout these unprecedented times and to extend my very best wishes to you and your loved ones.

2020 may have challenged us in ways we could never have expected; however, we will continue to do what we do best, and that’s providing world-class service, genuinely delivered from the heart. Human engagement and interaction, whether a warm smile, courteous welcome, or simply being seated at a restaurant table, can never be replaced virtually.
